Unlike regular X-rays, a CT scan provides more precise views of organs, bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues, making it useful for diagnosing injuries, infections, tumors, and other conditions. The procedure is quick, non-invasive, and may sometimes involve a contrast dye to enhance image clarity.

Preparing for Your
CT Scan

All CT scans must be scheduled in advance. Please call us to book your appointment.
What To Bring :
  • A referral from your GP or specialist​
  • Medicare card​
Please make sure to notify your doctor and the RRD Imaging team if any of the following apply to you:
  • You have a known allergy to iodine-based contrast dye used in X-rays
  • You have a history of kidney disease or reduced kidney function
  • You have diabetes and are currently taking medication
Many CT scans involve specific preparation, such as avoiding food for a period and ensuring adequate hydration. Our team will provide you with all necessary instructions at the time of scheduling your appointment.

Please inform us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before your scan.

What To Expect

Before the Scan

  • You may be asked to fast for a few hours, depending on the type of scan.
  • Drink plenty of water to stay well hydrated if advised.
  • Inform staff about allergies, kidney issues, or medications.
  • You may need to change into a gown and remove metal objects.

During the Scan

  • You will lie on a motorized table that moves through the CT scanner.
  • The scan is painless and usually takes only a few minutes.
  • You may be asked to hold your breath briefly for clearer images.
  • A contrast dye may be injected in some cases to improve image detail.

After the Scan

  • You can return to normal activities right away in most cases.
  • If contrast dye was used, you may be advised to drink extra fluids.
  • The images will be reviewed by a radiologist and sent to your doctor for discussion of results.
