Preparing for Your OPG

All OPG examinations must be scheduled in advance. Please contact our team to book your appointment at our Carseldine clinic.
What To Bring :
  • A referral from your dentist, GP, or specialist (if required)
  • Medicare card (where applicable)

No special preparation is usually required before an OPG. You may eat, drink, and take your usual medications unless advised otherwise.

Please inform our team if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant before your examination. 

What To Expect

Before the OPG

  • Remove glasses, earrings, necklaces, dentures, hearing aids, or other removable metal objects around the head and neck.
  • Our staff will position you correctly to ensure the highest quality images.

During the OPG

  • You will stand still while the panoramic X-ray machine rotates around your head.
  • The scan is completely painless and typically takes less than 30 seconds.
  • It is important to remain still throughout the scan to ensure clear images.

After the OPG

  • You can return to your normal activities immediately.
  • Your images will be reviewed by your dentist or referring clinician.
  • Your healthcare provider will discuss the findings and any recommended treatment or follow-up if required.
