An echocardiogram, often called an “echo,” is a diagnostic imaging test that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of the heart. It provides detailed information about the heart chambers, valves, walls, and blood flow, helping doctors evaluate how well the heart is functioning.
Unlike X-rays or CT scans, an echocardiogram does not use radiation and is generally a safe and comfortable procedure.
For a standard echocardiogram, there is usually no special preparation required. You can generally eat, drink, and take your usual medications unless your doctor or the RRD Imaging team advises otherwise.
